Nanzar and WP9 are announcing a new game for the scrolls called the Scroller Family Challenge. Everyone is invited to join. Please see the description below if you are interested.

Scroller Family Challenge

Objective:
To create opportunities to enjoy the rewards of accomplishments through participation in a sport-like environment.

Goal:
To discover talents and abilities, strengths and weaknesses, and personal likes and dislikes of each of the participants. To encourage dialogue that will enhance the experience of daily scrolling.

Requirements:
The competition will involve many different activities in which all the players must try to do their best. All players must be honest about everything they report doing. All players will give honest feedback and scores when asked. Each player will be assigned as coach for two weeks out of the season.

The Season:
The competition will last a number of weeks equal to twice the number of players who sign on. I will act as coach for the first week. Each week after, one participant will act as coach until all have served as coach twice.

The Game:
The object of the game is to take on physical and mental challenges and complete them in a fixed amount of time. As a player you will be expected to fulfill all your obligations. If you have trouble please get help the coach or from other players. At the end of each week your work will be scored by the other players. The scoring will be based on the rules below.

Rules of scoring:
The players will rank each player based on performance, effort, originality. The coach must take these observations into consideration but he or she will make a final decision about the rankings. There are five levels of rankings that a player can achieve. The results will be reported and the icon for each rank will then be "worn" by each of the players for that week. Each week a new ranking will be given out, final scoring will be based on overall performance. (See below for a more detailed table for scoring.)

The Tasks:
All players must keep a journal of the game in one of the topics. The journal should be read by each member during the week to help in judging the rankings. The coach for the week must read them to make a final decision. You may put anything you want into the diary that expresses the experiences you have had such as pictures, objects collected, etc.

There will be four tasks to complete each week- one that involves physical activity and three that involve mental activity. You may complete these at your own pace but you must be done by the end of the week. (Tasks should be designed to allow for world wide application, so weather and other differences must be considered. Make a version for each location if needed.)

The coach's job for the week is to prepare the tasks for the week. The coach must explain the tasks to the players and give any guidance where needed. (A list of tasks for ideas will be provided. Use these, or invent your own. These must be safe and possible for all players to accomplish - see examples below.) The coach will be judged by the players at the end of their week on helpfulness and creativity of the tasks by the players.

Remember, players must write in their journal about each of the activities they do during the week. Write what you did and how it felt, be honest and creative in you entries. Make it interesting- others are going to read it!

Finals:
One final task will be assigned after the last week of the season. All players will vote on the final task but Nanzar and WP9, will make the final decision. Prizes will be awarded based on the final rankings you receive.

Examples of the types of tasks:
(More examples will be posted later)

Scavenger hunts:
Pick a word such as dog and find one thing in every room that rhymes with dog. Then write a poem with all the words.
Pick a color such as yellow and find three things that go with yellow in your closet. Try on all three and draw them or take a picture.

Help Someone:
Do something special for a teacher classmate or a co-worker
Compliment one person each day about something good they did.
Find out three things that one player either hates or loves.

Postings:
Start a discussion in a topic you don't usually join
Put up three pictures in a post and have people guess where they are in your house

Share something personal:
Paint or draw a good experience and tell what you like about it.
Give away something you really like

Share knowledge:
Teach someone how to do something such as cook, a game, balance the checkbook
Prepare a speech on a subject you know well, make it interesting!

See another's point of view:
Find out why a person does things a certain way. Ask questions about till you understand.

Physical challenges:
Walk a mile twice this week
Run around the gym or your house ten times a day

Ranking:
I will explain more about the ranking system and scoring once we have game players on board.

Please leave your name here if you want to join. If we get 4 players we can begin, but we can do it with more than that too. I think 6- 8 players would be fun. I thought it would be nice to have two tries as coach each but it's not necessary. If the game seems too long we can run it just one week each as coach.
