This came out in 1965. The director meant it as an allegory to the Kennedy assassination.

Warren Oates is a bounty hunter hired by mysterious Millie Perkins to hunt for something or someone without telling him who or what. Jack Nicholson is a hired gun along for the ride.

It's an existential western, trippy as per the 1960s. i liked it but i guess not everyone would.
