What's your favorite Scary movie?
Me, I like the campy scary movies. Evil Dead, Scream, Army of Darkness, those kinda movies. Don't give the The Grudge or The Ring. I need my sleep.

There's two good movies on the IFC channel called Ginger Snaps and Ginger Snaps 2. Both were directed by John Fawcett (Xena). It's a werewolf movie but about as scary as watching Buffy. Lotsa dark humor.

What's your favorites?

I'm a big fan of M. Knight so I like scary movies that really make you think. Signs is my favorite of his.

Reposting my list below from XF3's thread on Halloween movies. One movie i wanna add to this list I watched last night on dvd, "One Missed Call". It's a Japanese flick with ghost girls, grudges, phones that ring that one shouldn't answer, and lotsa long black hair. Sound familiar? It's from the director of "Audition", an amazing suspenseful psych-drama a few years back. "One Missed Call" is a tribute to "Ringu", "Ju-on" and other similiar films but is a bit more scarey with a fun ending. If you see it, it's a play close attention to who the chararcters are kinda movie as things and ppl are not always as they seem.

The old, old classics, not scary but spooky with lotsa atmosphere that newer films lack-

The Wolf Man
Dracula
Frankenstein
Frankentsein Meets the Wolf Man
Bride of Frankenstein
Son of Frankenstein
House of Frankenstein
House of Dracula
The Mummy
The Creature from the Black Lagoon
The Phantom of the Opera (Lon Chaney Sr, silent)

Hammer horror films (Christopehr Lee, Peter Cushing usually star in these), much atmosphere, big boobed babes in low cut gowns:

The Mummy
Taste the Blood of Dracula
Horror of Dracula
Dracula Has Risen from the Grave
Curse of Frankenstein
Capt Kronos, Vampire Killer
Kiss of the Vampire
Blood from the Mummy's Tomb

A few AI flicks, gothic Poe stuff, Vincent Price & his pals:

The Haunted Palace
Countess Dracula
Tower of London
Pit and the Pendulum
Horror Hotel
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
The Vampire Lovers
Fall of the House of Usher
Comedy of Terrors
The Raven

Newer classics, more blood:

Halloween
The Howling
An American Werewolf in London
Scream 1-3
Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th

The Italian slasher/horror flicks:

Inferno
Phenomena (w/Jen Connelly!)
Deep Red (film that inspired both "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th")
Tenebre
Suspiria (must see classic!)
Cemetary Man (hip cult masterpiece!)

The Japanese/Korean horror movie:

The Eye
A Tale of Two Sisters
Ringu series
The Phone (higly recommended)
The Tomie series

Other films that go bump in the nite; overlooked classics; grade-b cult films:

The Evil Dead series
At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul
Bubba Ho-tep
Carnival of Souls (the original)
Incubus (cult classic w/Wm Shatner!)
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Blair Witch Project
The Others
Black Sunday
Naked Witch
Crypt of Dark Secrets
Psyched by the 4D Witch (extreme cult)
Monster A-Go Go
Spider Baby
Nosferatu (the 1979 version)
Horror Rises from the Tomb
Incredibly Strange Creatures who Stopped Living & Became Crazy Mixed-up Zombies (cult alert!)
Fangs of the Living Dead
The She Beast
Possession (cult classic)
Equinox (inspiration for Evil Dead series)
Horror of Party Beach
Sleepy Hallow
The House of Dark Shadows (from the TV show)
Silver Bullet
Vampyres
Ginger Snaps
Blacula
Company of Wolves
The Exorcist
Night of the Living Dead (the original)
Shaun of the Living Dead
28 Days Later
Last House on the Left
A Bucket of Blood
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Hellraiser
Jeepers Creepers
The Hills Have Eyes
Phantasm
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original)

Secret Window was great! It left me guessing until the very end, which doesn't happen very often in movies these days.

Wow, xc, that's quite a list. I'll have to hunt up some of those to watch one bright daylight day. Big Grin

Did you ever see The Making of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? I'm talking about the original B&W. It was on TV earlier this year, maybe like a 20th anniversary special. The writer/directors talked about it and showed clips. It was pretty cool.

I never saw the movie, but they talked about a guy in a wheelchair? They all hated him cus he was an A-hole. Um, something like that. Roll Eyes

well, there's a guy in a wheel chair in the new one. that's about the point when you know that this movie isn't going to dig itself out of the very deep whole it's already in...

i haven't seen the original but i'm willing to bet money that it's better than the remake. "texas chainsaw massacre" (2000-whatever) is THE worst movie i have ever seen in my entire life. it has exactly one good scene, and even that ends in disappointment. it's not even so bad it's funny. it's just bad -_-

I dunno, "Creepshow" (the first one), any "Nightmare On Elm Street" (Freddie rocks) and "Audrey Rose".

Your Hidden Talent

You have the natural talent of rocking the boat, thwarting the system.
And while this may not seem big, it can be.
It's people like you who serve as the catalysts to major cultural changes.
You're just a bit behind the scenes, so no one really notices.

The Shining scared the everloving piss out of me when I was little. To this day it sends chills up my spine when I think about the look on Jack's face.
