Just scored a 2 cd set "Donnie Darko" soundtrack- the British version. This one pretty much includes every tune from the movie, unlike the sad US version which leaves out a lotta great music.

What are your favorite movie & tv soundtracks?

Here's my film soundtracks-

Donnie Darko the UK version

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells

Singles

The Slaughter Rules

MGM Soul Cinema featuring music from "Blacula", "Shaft", "Superfly" etc.

Psycho Beach Party cool surf instrumentals

Feeling Minnesota

The Beatles soundtracks- Help, A Hard Day's Night and Yellow Submarine

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls- dumb movie, cool soundtrack

Y Tu Mama Tambien

Morven Callar

Pieces of April

Bombay The Hard Way- music from Bollywood films

Me Myself & Irene- excellent Steely Dan covers

The Sweet Hereafter- actress Sarah Polley is also a great singer

O Brother Where Art Thou

Cold Mountain

Hair- the 1979 film version

The Last Waltz- should it count as a soundtrack or a live album or both...hmmmm.

Have to track down my fave tv soundtracks.

Before I start I just want to say that I am a huge fan of musicals so that might explain my love for cartoon soundtracks. There just something so happily ever afterish about them. They make me happy...when skies are grey...okay...here's mine.

Rocky Horror Picture Show Wink

10 Things I Hate About You (AWESOME!)

Purple Rain

Grease

The Chipmunk Adventure Big Grin

Anastasia

Charlies Angels

The Muppet Movie

Beaches

Just about all and any Disney movies soundtrack ever made.

TV Soundtracks

Xena--Bitter Suite

Xena--Original TV Soundtrack (I love them all but these two are my favorites)

Buffy Vampire Slayer--The Album

Buffy Vampire Slayer--Once More with Feeling (amazing)

The Muppet Show--Music Mayhem and More

Ally McBeal--Heart and Soul

I'm sure there's more...If I think of any I'll post them.

Woops- i forgot about Magical Mystery Tour!

TV soundtracks-

Xena- all volumes, 'natch

There's a Dark Shadows soundtrack that mixes music from the tv series with the films plus some DS-related novelty tunes. Gotta love it.

I like The Ventures soundtracks to Hawaii 5-0, Batman and other classic tv shows. Usually a compilation of such music is good enough.

Good anime tv series soundtracks- Tenchi Muyo, Orange Road and Revolutionary Girl Utena

I also forgot Rock'n'Roll High School. Guess i best recheck my soundtrack section for more i forgot.

Got the Broken Flowers soundtrack recently. Haven't seen the movie- Bill Murray's in it, dunno who else- but the soundtrack rules. The cd features The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Marvin Gaye, Sleep, The Greenhornes (who i saw right now a week ago opening for the White Stripes) and a few songs sung by Holly Golightly (who guest vocaled on the White Stripes' "It's True That We Love One Another"). Ms Golightly's tunes are the highlights of the cd though everyone who contributes does contribute great music.

A really, really great soundtrack i picked up recently is the Open Season cd. Most of the tracks are from ex-Replacements guitarist Paul Westerberg. His songs are all new, plus there's a Talking Heads classic ("Wild Wild Life"), two songs from Deathray (new wavish stuff) and one from Pete Yorn. Excellent cd, i've found it pretty cheap for a soundtrack, Westerberg shines here, and it makes me wanna see the flick.

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is a pretty good soundtrack. It's got Dexy's Midnight Runners, the Smiths, Galaxy 500, Cracker, Sonic Youth, Bowie, New Order and others. A lot of music from the film didn't make the soundtrack like Bongwater. But still a great collection.
