Mother Explains Fatal Pit Bull Mauling Sun Jun 12,12:42 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO - The mother of a 12-year-old boy killed in his own home by one of the family's two pit bulls says she had been so concerned about one of the dogs that she shut her son in the basement to protect him.

Maureen Faibish said she ordered Nicholas to stay in the basement while she did errands on June 3, the day he was attacked by one or both of the dogs. She said she was worried about the male dog, Rex, who was acting possessive because the female, Ella, was in heat.

"I put him down there, with a shovel on the door," Faibish said in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle. "And I told him: `Stay down there until I come back.' Typical Nicky, he wouldn't listen to me."

Nicholas apparently found a way to open the basement door.

Despite her concerns about Rex that day, Faibish told the newspaper: "My kids got along great with (the dogs). We were never seeing any kind of violent tendencies."

Faibish found her son's body in a bedroom. He was covered in blood from several wounds, including a major head injury. No charges have been filed.

"It's Nicky's time to go," she said in the interview. "When you're born you're destined to go and this was his time."

Ella was shot to death by a police officer the day of the attack. Rex was taken to a shelter, but Faibish said she wanted him put down.

I can't believe that charges have not been filed on her...um lemme see...child endangerment....child neglet....Whould it have been to much trouble to take your kid with you??...No that would mean that you would actually have to spend quality time with your child?...Is the term running errands code for going to the bar???..."It was his time to go"...I guess you have to say something to yourself to get you to sleep at night...What a FUCKING moron. Another reason why some people should not be aloud to reproduce. Just one more child's life and future gone because one mother couldn't be bother to spend time with them. Fucking locking him in a basement...........

That kid had more abuse done to him than was done by that dog. If you ask me it was ongoing....

Ah well the one comfort is he is at least away from that evil slut from hell.

Bleeh.

Another reason why it is important to socialise puppies from a young age, so that they know how to act appropriately around people of ALL ages.

This just totally saddens me. Frown No mother in her right mind would keep a male and female pitbull in the same house as her child. I'm sorry if I offended any pit bull owners or lovers here, but these dogs have a reputation and it's not our imagination here. You want to breed pit bulls, or even keep them in your house, fine. But don't endanger your child. And her nonchalant attitude just sickens me. Mad

Here's a question....

Why didn't she lock the DOGS in the basement instead of the KID? At least while she did her chores and couldn't watch them....

Hmmm. Roll Eyes
