Looking out over the sand dunes
of a distant world, from a distant time
a man stands alone,
sees God in the emptiness,
claims his moment with the divine.

Our news cycle only scratches the surface
of a world in motion, a world in flux.
People clinging to the things
that give their lives some meaning-
the old ways meant something
to the ones that loved us.

At this moment
time seems irrelevant.
In this world
some are terrorists, and some are saints.
All have their reasons,
but their glory always seems
to leave us wanting more.

So I leave this marker here
to remember a time
that can never come again.
It's a man made invention,
without a single grasp on where we've been,
but maybe it can lead us
in the right direction.

****************

Inspired by The News Hour on PBS and the fact that at 8 :02 this evening a moment will come that will only be repeated one more time and has only occured once before. A perfectly symetrical time: hour, day, month and year.

edited for correction of time (thanks Argy)

it is really interesting to think that this will only happen once more! It is great to think it inspired you! especially since all day the only thing I heard was "Jesus is coming, Jesus is coming."

Very good "images" on it. Thank Xena for made me interested in English language, so now I can read things like this poem. I could even paint something inspired by it. [Cool]

AAMOF, was my sister's birthday and I told her to open a wine bottle exactly at that time [Smile]

Thank you all for responding. I didn't think this poem had enough in it to make sense, I pulled a lot of different ideas together, but I guess you got something out of it so that's great!

Prof- I'm honored that you also gave me your reactions. If you paint something may I see it someday?

Surely I would show you. I just wish I had more time to make art work.

Nanzar,

Still playing catch-up... [Wink] That was a really good idea, Nanzar! When I saw your title, I was wondering why you put the year there 3 times, but I got it now after your explaination of it all. That is very cool...and definitely true of how the times are now. Thanks for sharing this one. [Smile]

Ha, I actually caught this the night it happened, and read it right before it happened! [Smile]
Very kewl! I had to make sure I told you how much I enjoyed it! Sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner...you know me...*s* debauchery before the arts!

I've always respected you being able to sit down and write about...things going on around you like that. You have a knack for catching these things!
This is a very good example of it!
