Unexpected Return It’s like coming home Every word a dusty knick-knack In the colors I remembered Impressions deep in the carpet From the couch by the window The telephone rings And I pull the receiver to my ear Listening for someone To begin the singing words So often sought for Comfort at midnight Waking in the morning Giving the afternoons breath As it begins I close my eyes and feel The sun pour through the window A blanket on my legs My hand smoothes cotton And I take in fresh air Opening my eyes again This escape is my own Collections of words Jumble of ideas Sojourn through memories and dreams It’s nice to be Somewhere like home again In unrehearsed conversation. This message has been edited.
