haunted
click
dim light bulb in a dusty room
vaguely illuminates overturned furniture
rakish portraits at mad angles
cobweb boas draping a dissolute disarray
why am i here again?
what draws me once more to unbolt the door
to this windowless confusion?
what is it about this space
that is realer
and warmer
and somehow safer
than the brighter chaos outside?
i long to belong in the light
but the light rejects my vampiric soul
so back i go to my dreary cell
prison of my own creation
to commune with the ghosts
and await the sunrise
that never comes

I like this a lot. Symbolic as well as seasonal. There's this part, seeing the good in the vampire's fate...

what is it about this space
that is realer
and warmer
and somehow safer
than the brighter chaos outside?

and this, acknowleging that it's not enough:

i long to belong in the light
but the light rejects my vampiric soul
so back i go to my dreary cell
prison of my own creation
to commune with the ghosts
and await the sunrise
that never comes

Why do I suddenly see Angel brooding in Cordelia's kitchen, as Dennis floats him over a beer?
"Hey, Dennis. Still dead?" Rotfl...Big Grin

Anyway, well done.Smile

i like the "prison of my own creation", when really-it's a necessity. so one chooses to live despite the "confusion", "disarray", and "chaos". Where leaving our misery in the hopes of escape through death is still not a better option. Where it's all worth it. We can long for something we may never acquire, but the yearning keeps alive long enough to hope for what we can't have another day. That and hope i guess. the whole thing just doesn's seem that desolate.
