IDPhaedrus shuffles down the escalator
Torso erect
Arms at his sides
His hinged knees pivot
Breath in, breath out
He ticks off The List
In his head
Tea check
Dog biscuits check
Breath check
Juices bubble in his stomach
It is not time yet to eat
Check
Phaedrus had a big day today
He left the house
Now he is here
A child starts to cry
Eyes wince shut
Headache tablets check
A pack of one hundred
Eighty will put you to sleep
The sky is blue today
Yesterday it was black
Phaedrus hid in bed
Today he is exposed
Caught in the fluorescent lighting
He stuffs a bag full of apples
Pays
Smiles with his front teeth
Can’t remember what else is needed
Heads back to the car
I stare through the eyes of Phaedrus
At nothing

ArgeauxIt's not about what I've been reading.
Either the piece speaks, or it doesn't.
