zoomChallenge # umpteen
an exercise in imagery:
write something--poetry, prose, dialogue, whatever--that suggests a color. the actual color must never be stated, but the piece should completely convey it through imagery, symbolism, circumstance, again...wahtever. y'all get me here? let's see if i can give you a basic example.
sounds like le got the lawnmower started after all. after letting it sit out in the rain last night i figured it'd be hell to start. good thing too, because that shower really kicked the lawn into spring mode. looks like it grew 3 inches overnight.
mmmmm. nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass. that's what spring smells like to me. at least from this side of February it does. another week and the trees will be budding, too. i really hope i get time to put those herbs in the ground tomorrow. the thyme...sage...rosemary...curry...so many shades in one bed....it's going to look great.okay...so not a great piece of wrok but at least you hopefully grasp the concept.
oh...and i was going for
green here. you got that, right?

Free MadnessGood lord it's a ripe tomato. So succulent and juicy and sweet. I bite into it and i feel so alive...it's just the right shade, in the summer time, good lord, when you cut it it's even a darker shade than the outside! That is how good it is.
Oh my god, John just got me roses. Unbelievable. He places them in a vase and places them on the table...just for that he's getting homemade sauce. So I gather up all the freshly grown tomatoes and place them in the blender...put the spices in, some olive oil there ya go...it purees, makes a loud noise but when it's done...throw it on the skillet with some more olive oil. Rich dark shade of goodness as I stir it and he comes in to taste it. It'll go over tomato pasta. And I have just the perfect dress....what is that song by Chris Hughes? I need to teach John to dance some bloody time.

I light a strawberry candle. John is blushing--cute.

SaraI meant to get in here sooner but with the work stressage and then the camping de-stressage and all. Better late than never eh?
"Soliloquy"
Wrapped around royalty's shoulders
Hues of this near mountains ascent
Sun catching the eve just right
Vestment of sorrow during Lenten time
Blood of the grape, swirling in crystal glass
It sets off my eyes and my coloring well
Ripe from the tree of the tart, small fruit
Bruises wear this as a proud badge
Solitude sings with this color as it's mate
Not quite the depths of darkness
But royal and deep and majestic and cool
It wraps me up, a familiar friend.

Shinigami"Untitled" by jmiller @ 3/16/05
Luminous seas and crystal skies,
Reflected in ol' Frankie's eyes,
Sing it, Billy Holiday,
Rain makes me feel this way,
Jeans are what I love to wear,
Feel the chill in the air,
Cool and crisp, like waterfalls,
Listen when its beauty calls.
Your Hidden Talent
You have the natural talent of rocking the boat, thwarting the system.
And while this may not seem big, it can be.
It's people like you who serve as the catalysts to major cultural changes.
You're just a bit behind the scenes, so no one really notices.

The night, comforting darkness, speaks my name at the hour of 12
Envelope me in your cocoon, keep me safe, hide me well.
I cannot stand in unforgiving, unrelenting endless light
In your shadow, no one sees, shades of midnight, darkest hour
Blinding me but guiding me....other colors fade and pass.

zoomi liked blue. it had a very musical, aural feel--lots of sound imagery.
a smudge, a stain
common as dirt
on a sweaty, sun-baked brow
a cup of tea
some chocolate milk
and it's source a Jersey cow
my dusty boots
on Mexican tiles
a dimpled leather chair
coffee dregs
cockroach legs
and a lock of my ex's hair

Free MadnessShe purrs at my side
Little splotches on her fur
shades of a nectarine
And the setting sun
Shades of her eyes
Looking up at me
Embers of a candle
Cast tension out with fire.
