"Alien Apocalypse," written by Josh Becker and Rob Tapert, directed by Josh Becker, produced by Bruce Campbell, and starring Bruce Campbell and Renee O'Connor, is set to premiere in the US on the Sci-Fi Channel on Sat. March 26th at 9:00 PM EST. Here's the schedule: Sat. 3/26/2005 9:00 PM Sun. 3/26/2005 1:00 AM (remember - this is basically late Sat. night) Thurs. 3/31/2005 9:00 PM Being no fools (at least related to marketing) Sci-Fi is making that Saturday into a regular Bruce-fest. Here's the schedule: 5:00 PM - TERMINAL INVASION (this is a very bad film with Bruce and Chase Masterson, the dabo girl from DS9. It's basically "Body Snatchers/The Thing" with no special effects, centering on the beginnings of an alien invasion set in a little "Wings"-style commuter airline terminal in the middle of a blizzard. For hardcore Bruce-aficionados only, although he does his usual fine job. ) 7:00 PM - ARMY OF DARKNESS 9:00 PM - ALIEN APOCALYPSE 11:00 PM - ALIEN CARGO 1:00 AM - ALIEN APOCALYPSE Note: "Alien Cargo" has nothing to do with Renee and Bruce's film, it just has the word "alien" in the title. This is essentially a Xena reunion, with everyone but Lucy. In addition to the gang above, Gary Jones (2nd unit director for XWP's first season, and episode director for eps such as "Giant Killer," "Greater Good" and "Intimate Stranger" did 2nd unit for this film as well as special effects work, and regular Ren Pics composer Joseph LoDuca did the music. So did anyone watch? I thought it was hilarious! Cute, cute film, done on about $1.95, with Bulgarian actors filling all of the supporting roles, then dubbed in by Americans (ala old kung fu movies, and spaghetti westerns.) Bruce was his customary wiseguy/reluctant hero character, Renee looked cute, both got to kick the butts of some trippy 1950's-style alien bug-monsters, and there were a few subtle points made about how tenuous our dominance of the planet is, and how clueless humanity can be sometimes. Needless to say, those who are convinced Renee O'Connor should spend her career doing nothing but filming Xena/Gab fan-fiction with Lucy and frolicking in hot-tubs, were outraged and appallled that her character is essentially a generic girlfriend/supporting character for the hero, and those who are convinced Josh and Bruce are just as evil as Rob in degrading feminist empowerment motifs with slapstick comedy were appropriately angered by this film too - which in itself is actually kinda cool. But for light, low-budget sci-fi entertainment, with Bruce in classic Ash-form, I thought this film rocked. | |||
