Smirk MorganLaredo Texas-Alexander High school...
"Bang the drum slowly and play the fife lowly..." oh no, they aren't doing that song. No they are. Weird. That song shouldn't be peppy.

lila997The Telemundo float has arrived. telemundo is owned by NBC/Universal, you know. Enough with the shameless plugging of the NBC!! Just let us enjoy the Telemundo superstars. Or not.
Al claims that we will next see the first ever Latina balloon...Dora the Explorer.

Matt tries on his Spanish for size. It doesn't fit.
Donde esta marching bands, Senor Lauer???
24 November 2005, 11:55 AM
Smirk MorganWho the [censored] is Tiffany Evans? And why is she singing a mid-tempo song with a bunch of NFL players? I'm just not seeing the connection.
Ah...Charlie Brown. Now here is Tradition. Yes with a captial T.
Matt just called CB a lovable blockhead. It didn't sound natural.
24 November 2005, 11:57 AM
Smirk MorganOklahoma Rising
Hey the people on the float are actually...Okies!
Kristin Chenowith singing not some teenybopper. Naturally singing "Oklahoma!" Yes, that is the state song. Don't laugh, you know it. Do I know the words to YOUR state song? Probably not.

lila997CLOWNS! RUN!
24 November 2005, 11:59 AM
Smirk MorganMamaMorgan is such a cynic. She just pointed out the only reason we got to see the OK float was because KC is a regular on the West Wing. Oh the NBC promotional machine.
hehe

40 Hip hop kids....what's with all the white kids? I hate when white kids try to be ghetto. Matt trying to talk ghetto is mildly amusing.
Katie just said Al was "Getting down with your bad self"

Some pop band from Boston. I don't know 'em. I thought I was more up on the Boston bands.
Lila? You know the something 5?
24 November 2005, 12:07 PM
Smirk MorganKatie loves when Matt speaks Spanish. Hell, it *is* amusing. You get a pass on that one Katie.
Natasha Beddingfield is trying to hit it big in the US.
When these floats are submitted do the NBC parade organizers have a clause in the entry form that "You must have a bland popstar on the float unless you can produce someone with a bigger draw or an NBC television personality?"
24 November 2005, 12:09 PM
XF3Karrie Underwood did so good! I love her!
24 November 2005, 12:11 PM
Smirk Morganoh..the NYPD band...I love men in uniform. Why didn't we spend more time with them?
MardiGras in the Big Apple. hey! No bland teen pop star! Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Thank God. No canned music.

Yeah, The Click Five. They sing that wildly overplayed 'Just The Girl" song. They're alright.
24 November 2005, 12:13 PM
Smirk MorganSuper Grover is dipping a bit. I see Ronald McDonald in the background...is that the Clown Warning?
24 November 2005, 12:15 PM
Smirk MorganCan they be Cheerleaders if they aren't actually oh...cheering?
otherwise they are just so-so dancers.
What does our resident Cheerleader say?
24 November 2005, 12:16 PM
Smirk MorganDid they? Yes, they managed to plug NBC again! This time for the Winter Olympics.
24 November 2005, 12:20 PM
Smirk MorganKatie just said "nutmobile"
heh
24 November 2005, 12:24 PM
Smirk Morganhmm...is it possible that Steve Martin is the only one who can pull off "King Tut"? I hate to say that only one person can do a song...but Jai Rodriguez doesn't quite have the salesmanship for such a cheesy song.
24 November 2005, 12:25 PM
lila997Official word from scroll cheerleader: Cheerleaders must cheer. Non-cheering cheerleaders are a dance team.
And the clown warning was for a random clown mixed in with the otherwise parade-worthy NYPD folks.
Random clowns are the scariest on account of their unpredictability.
24 November 2005, 12:29 PM
lila997Ya know, earlier today
Arista asked me if I thought there might be a "Rent" film performance or float or something. At the time I was not sure. I should have realized that the answer is "no". Rent is not currently being aired on NBC.

(I think some of
MommaNora's cynical-ism is rubbing off on me....)
24 November 2005, 12:29 PM
Smirk Morgan<sigh> half an hour to go...can I make it?

zoom would have to agree with you on the clowns.
24 November 2005, 12:35 PM
Smirk Morganit has just occurred to me that the next Scroller gathering will have to feature JagerTea...which could be scary.
24 November 2005, 12:40 PM
Smirk MorganThe Anheiser Busch Clydesdales...again we get a brief shot and then back to Katie, Matt and Al.
Michael Feinstein...you know, you'd think he could have pulled a Gershwin song for this rather than--I don't have words to describe it. I remember MF on Larry King once talking about TinPan Alley songwriters would never come right out and say what a song was about in the lyrics. I wish that modern songwriters would learn that lesson. "A Gift of Thanks" is too corny for George and Ira.

Smirk MorganHow can there be any Beach Boys left? Don't they keep dying?
