Net Power Struggle Nears Climax Apparently there are nations out there that want a piece of the internet pie. As in controlling it. The UN is one of the most ineffecient organizations in the history of humanity. I don't really see turning it loose on the internet. Christ, can you imagine a UN Internet Security Council with five permanent members with veto power? As far as other countries playing, well, I don't see what is preventing China or Brazil from setting up their own system. If they want it to be compatible with the current framework already in place, they surely have programmers that are capable of bridging that gap. I don't think I really want the Chinese government to have a say in what I get to access on the internet. If they want to provide information that's great. But if they want to use the control they get to limit my information access, I'm not really interested. The US government, with all its flaws, really does have a better track record than the Chinese when it comes to protecting the free flow of information. What do you think? Should the US give up its stewardship of the internet? Is the internet broken? If it's not broken why are we trying to "fix" it? | ||
