i recently heard someone say that something bothered them, but in a good way. i liked the idea of that. this little silliness ensued... you bother me you bother me don’t go away i rather like it and wish you’d stay an irritant sand in my eye i need it there don’t ask me why an itch, a prickle under my skin why should i fight it i’d never win you bother me make no mistake like a faucet’s drip it keeps me awake i’m not masochistic but i do have a clue i know i’m alive by this stone in my shoe to live without it to finally be free now that would really bother me let us never say we can’t be bothered

Excellent. Funny, but apart from its universal 'usefulness' it also encapsulates quite well why I'm a die hard Xena fan. caught on the hop The Xenatizer [ June 29, 2002, 11:14 PM: Message edited by: The Xenatizer ]

Great little poem zoomy. I like the way you got it too. We have to mine what there is to be good writers, don't we? Even if it seems trivial, if it touches us, it can touch others and that's the whole idea!

An Essay for Ms Zoomy you bother me Already I like this poem. Is it gonna be cantankerous? What lies ahead? I can't wait to find out ... you bother me don’t go away i rather like it and wish you’d stay Intriguing. The narrator enjoys being bothered, despite the fact that bothering someone is usually seen as a negative thing to do. Why does the writer like to be bothered? I must read on to find out. an irritant sand in my eye i need it there don’t ask me why So, the poet isn't even sure herself why she likes to be bothered, even though it is clearly something that isn't enjoyable. an itch, a prickle under my skin why should i fight it i’d never win Now, it seems, the writer is resigning herself to the annoyance, and learning to love it, rather than REALLY enjoying it. you bother me make no mistake like a faucet’s drip it keeps me awake Back to highlighting how the bothering is NOT a good thing. Why, why, why, then, does the poet enjoy it? i’m not masochistic but i do have a clue i know i’m alive by this stone in my shoe Aha! Finally we have the answer. There IS a positive side to being bothered. Much like knowing we are because we think, the bothering reminds the writer that she has the ability to feel it because she is alive. It has awakened her to her own existence. to live without it to finally be free now that would really bother me The flip side - not to be bothered means the opposite of feeling, or even the end of life. Numbness. The writer chooses feelings, even negative ones, over nothingness. Makes sense to me. let us never say we can’t be bothered Not sure whether this is still part of the poem, or a reflection on its theme, but I like this twist of the meaning of "bother". An important lesson, indeed. Like I said above - GREAT POEM!!

I ,as a general rule, dont like poetry... HAY! Ya cant dance to it.. & if one has something to say.. a straightforward kinda guy like me thinks its best if they just come out & say it... this was an amusing & enjoyable read & it reminds me that most Personal growth DOES come when we are pushed outside our comfort zone, does it not...?? Thanks for this poem...its a most worthwhile effort
