He started to tell us that his step-daughter was an actress and had just had a son. zoom said 'We know all about her', to which he looked concerned, so I reassured him by explaining 'We're Xenites!' The waitress who gave me the foil to make my mini chakram looked VERY concerned with what I was up to. She thought I was making her a present, or something.

I’m not so sure that the term refers to an amicable argument; in my experience argy-bargies are often not only heated discussions but also rather bad-tempered ones, amounting to a spat or minor quarrel. But then, the term is mainly a British or old Commonwealth one, not that well known in the US, and easily misunderstood out of context.
