ArgeauxGoing to Texas
Here's your chance, people.
Feel free to suggest ANYTHING you think I should do while in Texas (except visit a brothel. Noooooooo thanks!)
So far I have:
- buy a belt buckle with a long horn on it
- drink many beers
- go line dancing
- see a rodeo
- eat a lamington
As you can see, not a very exciting list at the moment.
Throw in your contribution. If it's a good one, I'll do it AND post photos!!

GabberUmmm... hehe, I'm apparently not much more exciting I think.
Eat a kolache? (I know I just SO killed the spelling of that, but I can only say it, not spell it. Sometimes I'm mentally challenged like that.

) Although yeah, it's like midway between Austin and Dallas, so I don't know if that'll work for you.
Just get some good ol' Texas food. I don't know what it is about Texas and its food, but I seem to develop new favorites all the time.
Actually no seriously... go to the Riverwalk in San Antonio for sure, it's beautiful there. And it looks like you'll be there when it's not too hot either (which is a major plus- trust me, I know).
The best part about the state is the people...there's just a lot of character, friendliness, and hospitality. Mostly. There are some idiots, but that's too be expected anywhere.
I do hope you have a wonderful time,
Argy.

AmethystTake Ame with you.
You don't need to visit a brothel, your meeting up with enough Ho's.. hehehe
Get a photo of you and the others in texas all wearing them big ten gallon (?) hats
Do a message as a photo with each campy(camping) scroller holding up one word.

SaraEat some kick ass, tender, juicy barbecue. Mmmm oh and have iced tea, or tea that's chilled if you hate ice, like I do.
And actually Keri was right, kolaches are the best. It's in a town called West. Yes...West, Texas. If you want, I can bring you some on my way down to camp.
Texas is the best.
I offer no apologies for the things that I believe and say
And I like it that wayI'm beginning to notice
How much this feels like a waking limb

Nice to know you

Seriously, I was going to say gitcha some barbecue. Possibly some chili. They seem to have a thing for their chili, according to the food channel.

zoomwell i just typed a long ol post that got lost dammit.
the first weekend she's here we're going to the Austin City Limits Music Festival, so the music scene is covered in a big way. my sis-in-law's family owns The Kolache Shoppe, many times winners of the Caldwell Kolache Festival Bake-Off which is the gold standard in kolack\he contests, so we got that covered too. i imagine
Shawn will do San Antonio & BBQ cuz that's her thing.
of course the obligatory Threadgill's trip. there are several good art exhibits in town right now--particularly the Andy Warhol at the AMFA. i heard recently that a couple old friends of mine are reviving their Hard Women performance art piece from the 90's sometime late this month & we really need to catch that. and if we get bored at all i was thinking about heading north to the fraeky little town of Waco to see the Dr. Pepper Museum, Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & the former sire of David Koresch's Branch Davidian compound. or not... ;-) anyway--i don't think you're gonna be bored.
(
line dancing...?)

ShawnLOL about West. I stop ther EVERY time I go north on 35.
May try and hit the horse track. Possibly the Alamo. I have a friend with a plane, but I have had one heck of a time getting a hold of him. There is this little bar near where I grew up called Possum Creek that has the coldest beer and roughest pool tables around. That could be great fun.

lila997See the bats in Austin. Under the bridge on the river thingie... ahhh...
zoom &
Shawn know what I mean.
And there's that good music store they took
QB and me to before we went to Chuy's (where the Bush daughter got busted for underaged drinking).
OH, eat Bluebonnet (is that right?) ice cream.
QB got a little addicted to it.
And I dunno how you feel about the "Spot the..." game but I think it's fun to try to find/see/experience as many regional things as possible when visiting a new spot.
For instance you can try to spot:
an armadillo, a yellow rose, etc...

okay, now I'm jealous. It seems like everytime we stop in Waco we say we'll go to the Dr. Pepper museum and never do. We did eat the local version of the roadkill cafe though...I think it was called Buzzard Billy's or something. Mind you, that's been a decade gone, lol.
