Anybody else pick up some giant sexual tension between Scarlett and Melanie? Is that just me?

What other films (old and new, old especially) and/or tv shows did you feel were heavy with subtext?

I do believe there was much tension in "The facts of Life"

Good question. May have to think on that one.

Perhaps that's just you Heitie, cause I've seen GWTW quite a bit and I've never gotten any kind of sexual tension. Melanie's too pure for that and Olivia DeHaviland played her that way to the hilt.

Besides, Margaret Mitchell went to great pains to show that Scarlett didn't care for women or for their company, she only saw them as competition, the only woman she really cared for was her mother. *grins* But of course, we can always wish and dream eh? Wink Smile

I offer no apologies for the things that I believe and say
And I like it that way

Tear me up
Start me over
Make me become your ideal
Break what's me
Change how I think
Tell me what to feel

Because it's all for you
And who am I to protest?

And therein lies the tension. I don't mean that they desperately wanted each other, I mean there seems to be an attraction that neither understands. I haven't seen it for some time, though. I'll admit my interpretations have in the past been colored by a certain internal confusion, but still...I don't think they're just tense because of competition.

I think we can all agree on the Facts of Life Wink
