gasping
I have joined the millions of americans who have seen the movie 'moulin rouge' Being a theatre freak it's a wonder I didn't see it when the movie came out. But after weeks of my fellow theatre freaks raving about it and how good it was and how I had to buy the DVD I finally caved and watched it.

Holy crap. Amazing. I had a spectacular emotional experience with the whole thing. I guess you have to really love musicals cause yeah, it is a weird movie for the first thirty minutes or so. Anyways I was thinking about Satine and Christian and the ending and everything, and I decided to write. [Big Grin] (this is from christian's point of view, btw)

"Gasping"

so love is a many splendid thing
and it lifts us up high
none of that seems to matter
when the person you love has died

and as I heard her
begging for air
trying to breathe
I touched her hair
and I begged her not to leave

So come what may
she tried to be
till her dying day
everything for me

and storm clouds did gather
stars did collide
but she loved me
until the day she died

I cannot lose the memory
of our very last kiss
she held her breath and just let go
why did it have to end like this?

shuddering and gasping
we held on
her frail body rasping
and then she was gone

So love wasn't oxygen
not for Satine
She wilted in my arms
isn't love a splendid thing?

You certainly described it well! I, too, am a "Moulin Rouge" enthusiast. I watched it on DVD the night before my trip to NYC and was humming the love song when I got to my hotel. I was checking in and the lady behind the desk was singing and her co-worker was humming along. I leaned in closer and it was the song "Spectacular, Spectacular"! I lmao and told them they were responsible for getting that song back in my head! I LOVE that movie!

WONDERFUL!!! Moulin Rouge is one of my all-time-fav movies!!!!

You shoulda written that poem before the outcome of the DVD. Maybe they woulda put it on the back of it instead of their synopsis!

I love your poem...thank you!

Beautiful poem Sera. It is easy to see how much you were inspired.

My favorite stanza is this one:

"and storm clouds did gather
stars did collide
but she loved me
until the day she died"

I have not seen the movie, but now I definately will [Smile]

Sera,

I loved it, I really did. [Smile] The whole thing flowed really well, and you made me feel like I was there. I love the thoughts you conveyed and the images along with that. Honestly, a very good poem. lol, I may not see Moulin Rouge still, but I'm sure you did the scene amazing justice. Thanks for sharing with us. [Smile]
